You may have heard about the Government’s recent media release regarding possible changes to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
We understand that updates like this can feel uncertain, and it’s completely normal to have questions. During times like this, it’s important to stay grounded in what matters most.
What’s happening?
The Government has announced proposed reforms to the NDIS, focused on strengthening the system for the future.
These changes are aimed at:
- Improving the quality and consistency of supports
- Ensuring funding is used for reasonable and necessary supports
- Reducing fraud and misuse within the system
- Supporting the long-term sustainability of the NDIS
The NDIS will continue to support people with permanent and significant disability. This core purpose is not changing.
What does this mean for you right now?
Right now, there are no immediate changes to your current supports.
You can continue to access your services as normal, and there is no need to take any action at this stage.
There is a lot of information circulating, and it can feel overwhelming. This is where staying grounded is important.
What hasn’t changed:
- You will continue to receive your supports
- You have a team here to support you
- The NDIS remains in place to support people who need it
There is also no need to make changes, contact the NDIS, or review your plan at this stage.
Any changes will be introduced gradually over time and will be clearly communicated well in advance.
What may change over time?
While nothing changes immediately, over time the system may:
- Introduce more consistent and evidence-based assessments
- Provide clearer guidance around what is considered reasonable and necessary
- Strengthen provider standards and oversight
- Improve safeguards to better protect participants
These changes are designed to improve outcomes for participants and ensure the NDIS continues to be available for future generations.
